Site Updates

New features and fixes on the site, newest first.

Looking for changes to the character options in our Persistent World? See the PW Changelog.

This update includes a bunch of features and bug fixes, many that have been sitting around for a while.

A couple of features allow players to select between the Free Rules, and a wider selection of options. This is intended to allow people who are playing with limited sources to participate.

New User Features

Reincarnate

This feature allows a user to come back from the dead at a reduced cost, but as a random species. From the character list or detail, select “Reincarnate” from the action menu. Once completed, the session is spent without counting towards leveling, the character keeps half their gold, and they come back as a random species, drawn from either the Free Rules or every allowed species in the PW.

  • A Human who reincarnates as another species loses their bonus Origin feat. If another feat depends on it, they cannot reincarnate.
  • A character who comes back Human picks a bonus Origin feat on a new page, and the detail page reminds members who have not recorded one.
  • Items the new species cannot attune to are unequipped.

Proficiencies

When a user levels into a new tier by hitting levels 5, 9, 13 or 17, they can pick a language, instrument or tool to become proficient in. These are tracked in the Proficiencies tab of the character detail page.

This will backfill for all existing characters. Existing characters of level five and higher will see an alert on their character detail page, inviting them to pick any that are owed to them.

Character Max HP

A character’s maximum HP is now displayed on their character detail page. This takes features provided via CON, feats, class and species into account, but not magic items. Clicking on the info icon beside the HP value will display a detailed breakdown of the calculation.

Hiding Dead Characters

Characters in a user’s Graveyard can now be hidden and unhidden. This can be done by clicking “Hide” or “Unhide” in the action menu for a character, or can be batched by clicking the “Edit” button attached to the filter select at the top right of the graveyard. The default filter applied to the view is “unhidden”.

Mystery Boxes

Users can now purchase random items at a discounted price via the Mystery Boxes tab in the marketplace. These are sold at fixed prices by rarity, and contain a completely random magic item. A box will never contain an item that:

  • The character cannot possibly use (cannot be attuned to)
  • The character already owns
  • Is classified as consumable or has limited charges

The player can see what is potentially inside each box by clicking the “See what's inside” link in the marketplace. Before purchasing they can also decide whether they want to stick to items in the Free Rules, or pick from all options allowable in the PW.

Items purchased this way can be sold for 75% of the value of the box.

Event List Filtering

Users can filter events by event type or day of the week. This works in both card and list views, and can be changed via the existing filter select.

Bug Fixes

Epic Boons

Characters who are not multiclassed can now select an Epic Boon at level 19. Any existing characters owed an Epic Boon will see a backfill alert on their character detail page, and will be able to pick one.

Applying Sessions to L20 Characters

Sessions can now be applied to L20 characters. The character will receive the gold bonus only.

Spellcasting as a Prerequisite for Feats vs Magic Items

The DMG says the following in regards to magic items:

“Attunement Prerequisites. If a magic item has a class prerequisite, a creature must be a member of that class to attune to the item. If a creature must be a spellcaster to attune to an item, the creature qualifies if it can cast at least one spell using its traits or features, not by using a magic item or the like.”

This means that an L1 Aasimar Fighter can attune to magic items, even if they do not have the Spellcasting feature granted by various classes.

In regards to feats, the Spellcasting Feature is required. So the same L1 Aasimar Fighter cannot take any feats that require it.

This has been updated on the site, and should be reflected in any systems on it.

Warlock & the Spellcasting Prerequisite

In some cases Warlocks would be unable to attune to magic items that required a spellcaster. This is fixed now.
