I'll be narrator for this rpg. So for my games, yes there will be combat but I heavily focus on character play and interaction. Just note that this is not classical high fantasy. Think closer to a fantasy James Cameron Avatar. Not as fantastic  but more mythical and with a tinge of desperation and horror.

Now with that out of the way please bring your full array of dice, pencils, crearivity, and your best foot forward to work with your fellow players in this game. Pregens will be used at the game. 

Classic gaming with elegant execution. Shadowdark RPG is what old-school fantasy gaming would look like after being redesigned with 50 years of innovation. The game is fast, familiar, intuitive, and deadly. 

Emerging Dark Is a reskin and vast overhaul to facilitate a mythical and primordial setting. I have taken the path that Shadow Dark has blazed and turned into something fast, unfamiliar perhaps not as deadly but just as unforgivingly brutal. This is not swords and sorcery. This is survival and spiritualities.

 

Welcome to a world of breathtaking greenery, majestic vistas and perilous danger.

The islands of Tali-Naga are alive with natural wonder: misty mountains, cascading waterfalls, dense jungles, volcanic plains, and rich rivers teeming with life. Spirits linger in forests, Essence-rich sites pulse with power, and ancient creatures roam freely. The slumber of the kaiju ensures balance, but every misstep risks awakening it, which would devastate the land and all its people.

The veil between the living and the spiritual is thin, and the very land pulses with primordial power. Beneath the heart of the islands rests a sleeping Kaiju. It is a being revered as both god and destroyer. Its slumber allows rivers to run clear, forests to thrive, and crops to flourish, but even the smallest disturbance risks awakening its wrath. The beauty of this world is matched only by its danger, and survival demands skill, courage, and harmony with the land.

Life on these islands is shaped by six Primal Clans of Tali-Naga, each with its own culture, heritage, and magical affinity. Together, they uphold the spiritual balance and maintain the wards that protect the kaiju’s rest.

 

The Six Primal Clans of Tali-Naga

1. Suku Angin-Sakti — Clan of Sacred Wind

Instinct-focused pathfinders of the highlands, masters of tracking and navigating the eternal mists.

Feature: Their scouts never get lost, even in supernatural fogs, granting the party unparalleled tracking and exploration ability.

2. Suku Batu-Daya — Clan of Mighty Stone

Endurance-driven guardians of ancient valleys, builders of fortresses and keepers of ancient lore.

Feature: They can fortify positions quickly, giving allies defensive bonuses and bolstering spiritual wards.

3. Suku Api-Bara — Clan of Ember Fire

Agile warriors of volcanic slopes, skilled in rapid strikes and the deadly Gaya Api.

Feature: Their members gain a bonus on ambush and attack rolls in volatile terrain, making them lethal in fast-paced combat.

4. Suku Air-Dalam — Clan of Deep Water

Mighty hunters of coasts and river deltas, able to wrestle giant sea creatures and command waterways.

Feature: Experts in aquatic and amphibious combat, they can control terrain and secure resources that others cannot reach.

5. Suku Darah-Wali — Clan of Guarded Blood

Resolve-bound custodians of law and order, upholding contracts, oaths, and social equilibrium.

Feature: Their presence reinforces morale; they can prevent allies from succumbing to fear or corruption for a time.

6. Suku Jiwa-Pusat — Clan of Central Spirit

Soul-driven mystics, binding lesser gods to sacred sites and tending to Essence-rich gardens.

Feature: Their spiritual insight allows them to sense corruption, manipulate Essence, and bolster magical defenses.

 

 The Six Ways

As a Way-bearer, your actions ripple across this fragile ecosystem: harvesting Essence, binding it to weapons, and maintaining wards can mean the difference between life and destruction. Every hero chooses a Way, shaping both their approach and their role in the battle for survival:

1. Beast — The Primal Force

Feature: Beasts bring raw resilience and close-quarters dominance, able to absorb damage and strike devastatingly in melee.

2. Flower — Flower — The Venom and the Remedy

Feature: Flowers use flora to heal allies, manipulate poisons, and control the battlefield with creeping growth and toxic defenses. 

3. Hunter — The Tracker and Harvester

Feature: Hunters excel at identifying weak points in enemies and extracting Essence efficiently, maximizing both survival and power acquisition.

4. Shadow — The Saboteur in the Dark

Feature: Shadows excel at infiltration, stealth, and sabotage, manipulating shadows or even illusions. Attacks enemies without being seen.

5. Shaman — The Spirit Binder

Feature: Shamans manipulate spiritual energy, reinforce wards, and manage the dangerous balance of Decay and Resurgence.

6. Warrior — The Shield and Anchor

Feature: Warriors control the battlefield with discipline, protect allies, and enforce order, serving as the party’s defensive cornerstone.

 

 The Threats to our Islander World

1. The Sorcerers - Ravagers who corrupt the land, leaving dead zones where nothing grows and spiritual wards falter. They will take over then take off when all is desolate.

2. The Surgeons - Twisted artificers who construct abominations, creating monstrous threats that hunt indiscriminately and destabilize settlements. Once were sorcerers.

3. The Sea Monsters - Creatures of legend at home in the salty green waters and endless shores of our island. But they turned on us and now we hunt them to bind their energies to our weapons.

 

Both threats advance steadily, challenging the clans and testing the heroes’ ability to maintain balance. The time for heroes is now. As a Way-bearer, you must:

  • Harvest Essence from monsters and the land.
  • Bind Essence to weapons and armor carefully, balancing risk and power.
  • Protect spiritual wards that keep the kaiju at rest.
  • Engage threats tactically, using your Way Abilities to maximize impact.
  • Collaborate with the six Primal Clans, leveraging their unique strengths.

The enemies approach ever closer, the land trembles with anticipation, and the balance of life and spirit is at stake. Your courage, cunning, and connection to the primal forces will determine whether the Kaiju sleeps in undisturbed  peaceful divinity... or awakens in life-shattering fury of an angry god.
